PERNA CANALICULUS (The New Zealand green-lipped mussel)

Perna Canaliculus is kept as the richest and the purest source of Glycosaminoglycans GAG.

Perna Canaliculus composition: 61% proteins, 13% saccharides, 12% glycosaminglycans (GAG), 5% fats (including eicosatetraenoic acids), 5% minerals, 4% water. OMEGA 3 fatty acids are represented mainly by eicosatetraenoic acid (ETA), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), which effect inflammation processes in joints thus reducing the pain.

Minerals: sodium, magnesium, calcium, iron, zinc, copper, potassium, manganese, nickel.

Vitamins: C, D, E, B12, B1, B2, B3, B6.

Aminoacids: methionine, cysteine, asparagine, threonine, glycine, alanine.

Glycosaminoglycans (GAG): These are mucopolysaccharides. Along with collagen, they form a large part of the extracellular matter in connective tissue (in particular in cartilage, ligaments, tendons and so on). Hyaluronic acid and chondroitin sulphate (in the cartilage) count among important mucopolysaccharides. They are formed in our body through the process of the complex glucosamine synthesis.

They improve joint lubrication and absorption of water into the cartilage. This ability decreases with age or excessive strain and then it becomes necessary to supplement the GAG into our bodies.

GAG can absorb a great amount of water and function as the filling or lubrication for the connective tissue.
